Basic Meditation for Beginners
A basic meditation for beginners, the first thing we need to clarify: what we are doing here is aiming for mindfulness, not some process that magically clears your mind of the countless endless thoughts constantly popping and pinging our brains.
Remember, we are only practicing a basic beginner meditation that will help bring our attention back to our breathing, and then back to the breath when we notice that our attention has drifted.
1) Find a good meditation guide and teacher. Your teacher should have personally spent a lot of time meditating. He / she doesn't need to be perfect, but they should be able to guide you past the "sit still, close your eyes and watch your breathing" phase.
2) Set a dedicated place for your daily meditation practice, set a strict schedule, and follow it diligently. Eventually, both place and time become anchors to remind you of your meditation. It is much easier to train your mind and body to meditate if you can get into a routine of rhythmic and regular practice.
3) Choose a comfortable meditation posture. If you like, you can sit cross-legged on the floor or just sit in a chair with a back. The "gods of meditation" just don't care about your posture, so don't worry too much about not being able to sit in the lotus position.
4) Choose a simple and easy-to-practice meditation technique, such as looking at your breath, in the mirror, or by candlelight. Don't worry too much about finding the perfect technique. Meditation is 99% you and 1% technical. Any technique will work as long as you are willing to work with it.
5) The ideal duration of meditation is between 30 and 60 minutes in a single session. Initially, it can be a bit difficult to sit for 30 minutes, but you should be able to get through the initial difficult phase with a little determination. Watching movies is easy; meditation is not. If you are looking for immediate relaxation in meditation, you will be disappointed. Always remember that meditation is not a sprint; It is an ultra marathon.
6) Make meditation a top priority. If your meditation is even the second most important thing in your life, you will give up after a while. Find a way to constantly stay in touch with your meditation practice. Read books, follow meditation teachers, join meditation communities, attend programs and retreats - do whatever it takes to stay in touch.
7) Have fun. Just because meditation is difficult doesn't mean it should be dry, dull, and dull. Meditation is a great adventure. In fact, it is the greatest of all adventures; What can be more exciting than diving into the depths of your being to know life fully? It is very important to have fun with your meditation and keep it light.
8) Meditation is a battle against your mind. Your mind will never totally like, appreciate, or approve of your meditation, and you should totally agree with this. The most important thought to ignore if you are to be successful in meditation is: "My meditation is not working." Your mind will find a million reasons to try to convince you that meditation is a waste of time, don't give up.
9) You have to be a bit selfish to be successful in meditation. After all, meditation is the only thing you do that is 100% geared toward your own personal well-being, happiness, and transformation. If you are overly concerned with the opinions of the people around you, it is difficult to meditate.
10) Aim for the highest goal in meditation. The ultimate goal of meditation is self-realization or enlightenment. It just doesn't matter if you get there or not. Aiming for the highest possibility in meditation, at the very least, will keep you motivated. Relaxation, tranquility, awareness, intelligence, clarity, and confidence are by-products of meditation; none of these can be the real target. Aim for the highest and keep practicing; everything you take on the road is a bonus.
